Preparation

  • Account with some karma helps; brand-new accounts often get flagged.
  • Prepare: title (<80 chars), URL, 2–3 sentence comment with what you built and why.

Submit

  1. Go to https://news.ycombinator.com/submit
  2. Title format: Show HN: Your product – short hook
  3. Post URL (landing or demo). Avoid URL shorteners.
  4. Add a founder comment immediately after posting with context and how to try it.

Tracker

  • Status submitted when live on /item?id=…
  • Often no backlink until moderators approve; be ready to answer comments quickly.

Gotchas

  • Don't ask for upvotes. One Show HN per product is the norm.
